Kaya Island Eats Key West — The Best Vegan Happy Hour

Kaya Island Eats Key West — The Best Vegan Happy Hour

If you’re visiting Key West and you eat plant-based, Kaya Island Eats needs to be on your list. And if you’re a local like me — you already know.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food, the staff, the atmosphere, the drinks… everything is incredible every single time. Kaya is one of those restaurants that just gets it right, and Scott (the owner) is one of the most involved, passionate owners I’ve ever come across. His enthusiasm is genuinely infectious.

What I Ordered

I went with the No Worries Coconut Curry Rice Bowl — coconut curry rice loaded with veggies and topped with peanut hoisin sauce, pickled carrot and ginger ribbons, green onions, and sesame seeds. It’s a lot going on and every single bite is worth it.

The Veggie Warrior Wontons are also a must. Crispy, saucy, and absolutely the kind of thing you’ll be thinking about on the drive home.

The Tofu That Scott Made Happen

Okay, this is the part of the story I have to tell you about. I asked for a simple side of tofu to go with my curry — nothing fancy, just tofu. And Scott went out of his way to add some love and ✨magic✨ (his words) to it and ended up creating one of the most creative tofu dishes I have ever had. We’re talking house-made chimichurri sauce, fresh tomatoes, a balsamic glaze drizzle, and chiffonaded basil.

Pro tip: chiffonade is a knife technique where you stack your herbs, roll them tightly, and slice into thin ribbons. The more you know. 🌿

That’s just who Scott is. You ask for something simple and he gives you something memorable.

The Drinks

Happy hour at Kaya is half off and we absolutely took advantage. My dad and I got Crazy Lady beers, my mom ordered a rosé, and every single table gets served a pitcher of detox water with cucumbers, lemon, and lime. The best water on the island, honestly — for balance, obviously. 😂

The Bottom Line

Kaya has something for everyone and you will not be disappointed. Whether you’re fully vegan, plant-curious, or just someone who wants a genuinely great meal in Key West — this is the spot. Get there early because it fills up fast.
